Background
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
Assistant Surveyor Eugene Bellair was undertaking a chain survey in Ballarat East in September 1854. The survey started at St Alipius Chapel[1]
At the State Treason Trials Witnesses deposing against Charles Brown, Thomas Barry, Michael Tuohy, Henry Read and James Campbell were: George King, John King, Samuel Burnell, John Dougherty, Michael Lawler, Joseph Penrose, John White, John Penaluna, Eugene Bellairs, James Wearne, James Richardson Gaunt, Peter Ellis, John Sullivan, James Clerk, Joseph Raynor, Henry Bedwell, William Richardson.
Eugene Bellairs swore in his deposition:
[I was] stopped by a party of men and questioned as to whether I was a trooper ?? said you may thank God you are not a Trooper - or you have been ??

Family
Eugene Bellairs married Maria M. Prialx in Hobart in 1855.
- On the 31st January, at St. George's Church, Battery Point, by the Rev. Dr. Fry, Eugene Bellairs, son of the late Lieutenant Bellairs, R.N., to Maria Margaret Priaulx, second daughter of Assistant Commissary General Priaulx, Hobart Town. [3]

- BELLAIRS.—January 23, at High-street, Launceston, of diarrhoea, Henry Eugene, only son of Eugene Bellairs, aged seven months.[4]
