Background

Avent arrived from New Zealand in the early 1850s and was in Ballarat in 1854.[1]

Avent was an eyewitness to Eureka Stockade. [2]

Post 1854 Experiences

He became a pioneer builder of the goldfields. His son Frank Alex Avent was born in Brown Hill in 1875 and educated at Brown Hill State School and later became a master builder and contractor. [4]
