Background

R. Alexander may by Raphael Alexander who was a draper and outfitter in Main Road, Ballarat East in 1858, later moving to Yarrawee Parade.[1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

Post 1854 Experiences

Alexander signed a Petition of householders of Ballaarat requesting the establishment of a Municipality in 1855. He was a storekeeper who signed a petition supporting the Benden Sherritt Hassell Compensation Case, which was delivered by J.B. Humffray on 21 February 1856. Hassell was shot in the thigh during the arrival of the 12th Regiment at Ballarat on 28 November 1854. Hassell was unable to follow his usual business for over 4 months, and medical advice stated he would never recover perfect use and strength in the limb. Alexander was a storekeeper at Ballarat in February 1856. [2]
