Mrs. Lucy Cox, of M'Gregor Street, - Middle Park, who was 84 on Saturday, is claimed to be the oldest woman bowler In the world, as she still plays with the Middle Park Women's Bowling Club. She is a descendant of Captain Mitchell, who was a close friend of Adam Lindsay Gordon and a comrade of the poet in the Bengal Lancers Regiment. Mrs. Cox was born In a tent on the Eureka gold field, Ballarat shortly before the Eureka Stockade riot. Her husband. Mr. Solomon Cox, as a boy, witnessed the burning of Bentley's Hotel. He played for Ballarat cricket team In the first match against an English eleven In the 'sixties'[1]
