Centred in Lyttleton Street, the monster meeting on Agitation Hill took place after a police raid in May 1853. The same day a placade was posted stating:
- MEN OF CASTLEMAINE! MEET ON THE HILL BEHIND THE BAPTIST CHAPEL!
