Bridget Byrne married William Irwin. [1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

Bridget showed initiative and strength. She attended the wounded after the Eureka battle, at the hotel owned by William Irwin, whom she later married. Bridget had arrived at the Diggings with her parents and sister. The family set up a tea stall near the Eureka Lead. Helen Townsend, her grand daughter, wrote: “When Bridget died, she was given a short obituary as William’s wife, which also mentioned that she nursed the wounded at Eureka. [2]

Bridget married William Irwin and they ran the hotel now known as the Provincial.
