William Sansum

Background

William Sansum, the son of Joseph and Hannah Sansum, was born in England. William arrived in Ballarat in search of gold. He died on 07 May 1877 at the Ballarat Benevolent Asyum, and was buried the next day in the Ballaarat New Cemetery. [1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

According to family history William Sansum was wounded during the Eureka Stockade battle. His daughter, and a son named John, hid under the table in the tent. After the battle is ti believed William went to Geelong where he stayed for about six months. [2]

VICTORIA : Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.-In the Goods of JOHN SANSUM, late of Ballaarat, in the Colony of Victoria, Gold-digger, Deceased.-Notice is hereby given, that, at the expiration of fourteen days from the date of the publication hereof, application will be made to the Supreme Court of the Colony of Victoria, In its Ecclesiastical jurisdiction, that LETTERS of ADMINISTRATION of the estate and effects of John Sansum, deceased, be granted to William Sansum, brother and next-of-kin of the said John Sansum, deceased.
Dated this 2nd day of February, A.D. 1859.

HENRY SANSUM, formerly of Lambert street, Camperdown, and last heard of at Singleton, N.S.W., in April last (son of late William Sansum, deceased, of London), is requested to communicate with F.W.
