:The death of Mr. T. Webb, of [[Taggerty]], has removed another old identity from the district. The old gentleman was well and hearty up till a few days ago, when he contracted influenza. It appears he had sufficiently recovered from the attack to attend to his usual duties about the farm. On Sunday week he again took ill and succumbed to pneumonia the following Saturday. The late Mr. Webb was born on 6th April, 1834, in Calm, Wiltshire, [[England]]. He served his time in a flour mill, owned by his father. At the age of 18 he left for Australia in the ship Old British Empire, and landed at Portland Bay, in the year '52. He made for the goldfields, where he commenced carrying with horse teams between Melbourne and [[Ballarat]], and was after gold digging with varied success at Ballarat, Bendigo, Forest and other diggings. He was within hearing of [[Eureka Stockade]] Riot. He married in 1867, after which turned his attention to farming. He owned land at M'Callum's Creek, [[Talbot]], and after residing there for nine years, sold out and took up land at the [[Acheron]], where he resided for the last 33 years as a dairy and sheep farmer. He leaves a widow, two sons and five daughters who are all well provided for.<ref>exandra and Yea Standard, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express, 1 November 1907.</ref><br />
