Obituary

A PIONEER.
A very old pioneer, Mr. Samuel Hanna M'Connell, of Borung, 53 years a colonist, has died at Korongvale. He was present at the Eureka Stockade riots, and aftenwards joined the police. Besides capturing a number of horse-stealers, he, with the aid of a sailor, arrested the notorious bushranger, "Captain Melville," and the £100 reward was divided between M'Connell and the sailor. For the last 20 years the brave old man lived quietly with his son, Mr. A. M'Connell. The deceased was 80 years of age.[1]
