Obituary

WARRNAMBOOL.
The death is reported of Mr Samuel Adams, who, for over half a century, has resided at Wangoom. The deceased was a native of County Antrim, Ireland, and came to Victoria by the sailing ship Typhoon, landing at Hobson's Hay in March, 1853, after a rather tempestuous voyage of 155 days. The vessel met with particularly rough weather in the Bay of Biscay, during which she lost her masts, and had to put in ton Lisbon, where it took 10 days to effect repairs. On arrival in Victoria Mr Adams proceeded to the diggings, and was working at Creswick at the time of the Ballarat riot. He took up land in the parish of Purnum in 185r. where he carried on farming and giving pursuits with marked success until the time of his death. He had reached the age of 77 years.[1]
