Background

Serjeant was born in Cornwall, England, in 1828. He was the son of surgeon in the Royal Marines.

Post 1854 Experiences

In 1855 Serjeant was the first to sink through basalt on the Gravel Pits opening up the riches of Ballarat’s deep leads. hHe was Manager of the Band of Hope and Albion, with a house in Darling Street, Ballarat.
