Ophir is located 27 km north east of Orange and 280 km west of Sydney via Orange. It is reportedly the site where payable gold was first discovered in Australia. The first Europeans in the area called the location Yorky's corner, but the name was later changed to Ophir, with its reference to the Old Testament.[1]
