Background
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
At the time of the Eureka Riots Lawrence Carter Holmes and his partner James Weatherly were operating the Eureka Bakery. When the shooting started, Laurence Holmes was off seeing to his horses.[1]
Post 1854 Experiences
In 1904 Laurence C. Holmes was living in Arawatta. He attended the 50th anniversary of Eureka which is remembered witin the family the following way:
- When the fifty year celebrations occurred in 1904, LC Holmes attended and was claimed by his descendants to have enjoyed a roughly ten day bender with old mates. Given his sons had signed the pledge, they were unimpressed.
