Born 21 November Westminer London, and baptised 22 December 1819 at St Margaret's, Westminster. He married Jane Elizabeth Fray at St Margaret's on 26 June 1843.Routh was a saddler and harness maker. With Jane he had four children: James William Joseph born 1845, Jane Emilia born 1847 Walsall, Saffordshire, Christopher and Maria Ellen who married William Hick.[1]

Joseph Routh was in Ballarat at the time of the Eureka Stockade.
Post 1854 Experiences
Joseph M. Routh was residing at Ballarat when he signed the Benden Hassell Petition in 1855. [2]
