Background

John Lockwood Westoby was born in 1826 at London, England. As a 28 year old he sailed to Australia on the Himalaya, arriving in Australia in 1852. John Westoby died in 1880 at Chewton, Victoria. [1]

John Westoby and family were living at Chewton, near Castlemaine, Victoria.

Family

John Westoby married Margaret Stewart in 1855 at Castlemaine, Victoria. She died in 1861.[2]

In 1863 John Westoby married Eliza Frances Angus at Chewton, Victoria. She died in 1875.[3]

Obituary

JOHN LOCKWOOD WESTOBY, Deceased.— Pursuant to the Trusts Act 1890, Notice is hereby given that all persons having CLAIMS against the Estate of John Lockwood Westoby, late of Chewton, in the Colony of Viotoria, Store keeper, Deceased, who died on the Sixteenth day of August, 1880, and Probate of whose will was on the Twenty-first day of September, 1880, granted io John William Sparks, John Lamb, Thomas Taylor, and Robert Ottery, all of Chewton, aforesaid; the Executors named therin, are reiquired to SEND PARTICULARS thereof to the ixeautors, care of the undersigned, before the Twenty-fourth day of May, 1895, after which date the said Executors will proceed to distribute the assets of the said Deceased, having regard only to the claims whereof they shall then have had notice. Dated this First day of May, 1895. Francis Kirwan Best,- Lyttleton-street, Castlemaine,. Proctor for the said Executors.[4]

Sometimes John Westoby is incorrectly confused with Henry Westerby.
