The following correspondence was read by the Clerk of the Court :
"Surveyor's Office,
"Frenchman's Lead, Ballarat,
"4th Aug., 1856.
" Sir,-Having received the appointment of Mining Surveyor on the recommendation of your honorable Court, I deem it an act of courtesy and prudence as well as * duty to inform you that, being unable to attend to all the duties of Surveyor of the three leads under my charge, I desire to tender to his Excellency's Government my resignation as Mining Surveyor on the Black Lead.
