John Knipe

Background
Knipe was born on 04 August 1828 in England. He married Ellen Crouch, who died in 1852, and his second wife was Jane Munro. He died on 31 August 1895 and is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
Knipe mined at Bendigo and then at Simpson’s Diggings in 1854. Knipe took part in a campaign to abolish license fees and he spoke at a number of meetings. He was appointed as a delegate to attend a conference in Ballarat where he was present in the Eureka Stockade during the battle and taken a prisoner. x
