Background

John Cridge was born in 1833 at West Hatch, Taunton, Somerset, England. [1]

on 23 November 1863 John Cridge married Mary Higgs at St Gregory's Catholic Church, Queanbeyan, New South Wales.[2]

John Cridge died at Numerella aged 84 years on 26 February 1917.[3]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

John Cridge was a private with the 12th Regiment. He was stationed at Eureka in 1854, and deserted from the Military there in August 1855.[4]

Post 1854 Experiences

Cridge moved to the Cooma/Monaro district of New South Wales.

COOMA.-At the Cooma Police Court on Monday, before Mr. F. H. Galbraith, P.M., John William Koppman summoned John Cridge, of Numeralla, for removing stock from certain lands in complainant's possession without having given notice of the same. Mr. Rose appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Mitchell for defendant. The case was dismissed and plaintiff was ordered to pay costs, amounting to £2 4s, in default one week's imprisonment.[6]
