Born in Scotland, Cathie was a teetotaller. He was a self-educated Scottish Chartist.

John Cathie was a member of the Ballarat Reform League. He was a Chartist. [1]

Post 1854 Experiences

Cathie made pianos and coffins in Ballarat in 1869.[2] His pianoforte manufactory was at 4 Neill Street, Soldiers Hill. [3]
