Jane Curnow was born in Cornwall. She immigrated to Adelaide in 1848 with her husband, William Curnow, and their five children. William died from sun stroke months after arriving in Australia. After the announcement of the discovery of gold in 1851 Jane, then aged 52, overlanded from Adelaide to Ballarat where her oldest sons has some success on the goldfield. [1]
