Born in Edinburgh, Scotland around 1829, James Workings married Agnes Murray in Victoria in 1867. James and Agnes are buried in the Old Cemetery, Ballarat.

DEATH NOTICE
WORKINGS - On the 16th May, at his residence, 306 Humffray street north, Ballarat, James Workings; native of Edinburgh, Scotland; aged sixty-four years. A patient sufferer gone to rest.[1]
OBITUARY
Another very old Ballarat identity, in the person of James Workings, a resident of Humffray Street North, died on Tuesday last, after much suffering, from that dread complaint, miner’s disease. The deceased, who arrived in Ballarat in the fifties, took part in the conflict with the miners and military at the Eureka Stockade, and after that period was a prominent figure in mining matters.
His remains were interred in the Old Cemetery on Wednesday last, and the funeral was largely attended. Mr Workings, who was sixty-four years of age, leaves a widow and two daughters.[2]
