Background

James Woolcock was born in 1826 at Truro, Cornwall, England. He sailed to Australia on the Arabia arriving in Victoria in early 1854. He headed for the Creswick goldfield, and was associated with the Old Tower Hill Mine, Whitehorse Ranges. He was one of the original shareholders in the One and All Co-operative Mine, later becoming the Manager.[1]

James Woolcock died on 19 May 1910, and is buried in the Buninyong Cemetery.[2]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

He was a miner at Creswick at the time of the Eureka Stockade.[3]

Woolcock became a pioneer resident of Magpie.
