Obituary
- A well known and highly esteemed Pioneer resident of the North East Coast, in the person of Mr James Crichton, passed away at his farm residence, 'Moss Giel,' at the ripe age of 86 years. Deceased was a native of Scotland, and was on the mainland, and came to the Ruby Flat tin mines about 1876, at which he was fairly successful, and shortly afterwards took up Government forest land near Derby where he has resided for about 40 years, and which he has converted into a smiling homestead. He was one of the solid type of Scotsman, and his word was his bond. He leaves behind a widow and a grown up family of sons and daughters, for whom much sympathy is expressed. He was a native of Ayrshire. Scotland, and came to Ballarat goldfields in 1851, and was at the Eureka Stockade at the time of the riots.[2]
