Background
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
Clark was residing at Ballarat when he signed the Benden Hassell Petition in 1856. [1]
It is not clear whether this is the same James Clark who was a trooper and involved in Eureka, although it is a distinct possibility.
James Clark saith on oath:
I am a trooper on the ?? instant I saw prisoner about a mile from the stockade. Mr Langley gave ?? me. He had on I think, a blue shirt and a wide awake [this is the name commonly given to a type of hat worn on the diggings]. This was a ?/ over and while we were coming home with prisoners.
