Background
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
Clark was residing at Ballarat when he signed the Benden Hassell Petition in 1856. [1]
It is not clear whether this is the same James Clark who was a trooper and involved in Eureka, although it is a distinct possibility.
Recognizance to give evidence: James Clark.[2]
- James Clark saith on oath:
- I am a trooper on the ?? instant I saw prisoner about a mile from the stockade. Mr Langley gave ?? me. He had on I think, a blue shirt and a wide awake [this is the name commonly given to a type of hat worn on the diggings]. This was a ?/ over and while we were coming home with prisoners.
- James Clark
- Sworn before me at Ballarat this 11th December 1854.
- E. P> Sturt PM[3]
