Post 1854 Experiences
- Mr. Isaac Mattson, whose death has occurred in Melbourne in his 94th year, took an active part in the Eureka incident, in 1854, being, an intimate friend of Peter Lalor and of Esmond, the gold discoverer, one of Lalor's foragers for ammunition. Be was one of the pioneers of mining in California. He took an active part in securing the Presidency of the United States for Zachary Taylor in 1848, and left California for Ballarat in 1851. He has left four daughters, 17 grandchildren and nine great grand children. [2]
The Ballarat Courier newspaper reported that his remains were interred privately in the Coburg Cemetery. [3]
