Background

George Clendinning was a doctor who graduated from the University of Dublin in 1832. He lived in on Pennyweight Hill, having arrived in Ballarat c1852. He was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, London; and legally qualified medical practitioner of Victoria.[1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

Dr Clendinning donated his guns to the diggers at the time of Eureka Stockade. Clendinning’s wife, Martha Clendinning, claimed to have piece of Eureka Flag given to her by Dr Alfred Carr.[2]

Post 1854 Experiences

In 1856 Clendinning applied to be the Honorary Surgeon at the Ballarat Hospital. He was on the committee of the Ballarat Gas Company in 1857.[3] Dr Clendininng was Chairman of the Municipality of Ballarat East in 1860.[4]
