George Barker

Background

Barker was from New South Wales, arriving at Geelong before 1851. Barker was the brother-in-law Thomas Hunt.

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

He was a storekeeper at Barker and Hunt, which was situated in Main Road, Specimen Hill. The Eureka Flag was hoisted on their store on 29 November 1854. Barker and Hunt’s Store is reproduced in a sketch by Charles Doudiet.

Post 1854 Experiences

They received the payment of £22.18.8 and £16.0.0 for provisions in relation to the military at Ballarat in February 1855.
