This book was photographed in 2002 for research on The Silent City co-authored with Peter Butters, designed by Three Little Words and produced by Ballarat Cemeteries Trust.
The Ethersay Register is held at the Ballarat Cemeteries, and is the earliest available information about burials in Ballarat. It is handwritten presumably by the first Sexton, James Ethersay. The photographs were taken around 2002 and some are not the best quality, but they have survived and are a record so have been preserved here. These burials begin at the first entry on 11 October 1853, in date order throughout the book. As the register was large, the opposite page was filmed separately. Some of these pages do not capture all information available. Numbers of entries at times overlap to make sure that all information was filmed, and all numbers in the register were captured. Sorry for any repetition but it was felt that the information was important and as much as possible captured.
