Background

Dennis Keys was born in 1804 in Kilkenny, Ireland. He married Mary. Dennis was a storekeeper in Ballarat, and the informant on the death certificates of Edward McGlynn and Thomas O'Neill, who were both killed as the result of the Eureka Stockade battle. He died on 13 September 1876, and was buried at the Ballaarat Old Cemetery on 15 September.[1]

Goldfields Involvement, 1854

Dennis Keys signed a letter to the Colonial Secretary written on behalf of Ballarat Catholics complaining at the treatment of Fr Patrick Smyth's servant, Johannes Gregorius.[2]

Post 1854 Experiences

Dennis Keys became the publican of the Shamrock Hotel in Victoria Street.[3]

Notes

Dennis Keys is possibly related to John Keys who was sponsor at the christening of a child of Hugh Brady and Margaret Baker.[4]
