Obituary

The funeral of Mrs Charlotte Neep (relict of the late Mr William Neep) took place yesterday in the Old Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs H. Draper, C. Carter, W. Hancock, W. J. Fairlie, F. Smith, and S. Morgan. The coffin-bearers were Messrs J. Dow, A. Stevens, W. and C. Ludbrook. Ven. Achdeacon Tucker conducted the service at the house and grave. Messrs Jordan and Tippett carried out the funeral arrangements. Old residents of Ballarat will regret to hear of the death of Mrs Neep, relict of the late Mr W. Neep, who yesterday passed quietly away at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. Robt. Ludbrook, at the ripe old age of 85 years. Mrs Neep arrived in Ballarat in the early fifties. She lived for here at the time of the riot, and was rather too close to be pleasant, as bullets passed through the tent occupied by Mr Neep and his wife. She leaves one son, Mr W. Neep, of the National Bank, Renmark, and a daughter, Mrs Park, wife of Mr W. Park, of the Education Department. The late Mr W. Neep will be remembered by the old-time cricketers, he being an enthusiastic cricketer, having played against the first English Eleven in Ballarat, and he was often chosen as umpire in local matches.[1]
