Background

Dr Charles Campbell assisted in the amputation of William Simpson Hardie’s right leg on 04 December 1854 at James Beveridge’s store. The other doctors present were Alfred Carr, Henry Mount, and Henry Leman.[1]

In addition to the other lamentable results of Thursday night's firing, I have to report that Mr. Harvey, a gentleman residing in Bacchus Marsh, who was wounded in the leg by a shot from the Camp, has since suffered amputation, and is in a very precarious state.[2]
