- One of the pioneers of the Cobden district, and an old resident of the State died here, in the person of Mr Archibald Hamilton, of Elingamite. The deceased was in his 74th year. Born in Berwickshire, he came to Victoria while a young man, and after remaining in Geelong for some time, he tried his luck on the goldfields at Ballarat. He was there in the stirring times of the Eureka Stockade. Mr. Hamilton afterwards took up his home in the Cobden district, where he remained until his death.[1]
