MR ALFRED MILLMAN
Late yesterday afternoon a very old resident of the district, who would, had he been spared for three months, been a centenarian, passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. P. Heenan, of Barkly street East, in the person of Mr Alfred Millman. Mr Millman, though feeble, appeared to be in his usual health when he suddenly collapsed, and expired before the doctor summoned immediately arrived. He was born at Buckinghamshire, England, and came to Victoria at the age of 17 years, and going to Ballarat was the oldest survivor of the Eureka riot. For the past sixty years he lived continuously at Ararat, and for a long term of years was valuer and inspector for the Shire of Ararat, and was well known and respected all over the district. His wife pre-deceased him by twenty-nine years, and for a lengthy period he has lived a retired life at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Heenan. He leaves a family of three daughters and five sons, these being Mesdames A. Molony, P. Heenan, and Mrs Murray, of Kew, and Frederick (Kew), George (Preston), John (Brunswick), Alfred (Deniliquin, N.S.W) and Herbert (Ararat). The remains of the deceased are to be interred in the Ararat Cemetery.[1]
