Alexander McKenzie Allen

Background
Alexander McKenzie Allen was born on 03 September 1920 at Montrose, Scotland.[1] Margaret (Gellatly) and her husband Alexander McKenzie Allen and three children sailed from Scotland on the Flora in 1852. He was a tailor who was working as a miner at Eureka at the time of the Eureka Stockade. Alexander died in September 1899 and was buried at Mount Egerton Cemetery.[2]

The family lived on the east side of Ballarat West where Alexander worked as a tailor.[3]
Family
Alexander and Margaret had at least sevenchildren, three born in Australia:
1. James (Died Alloa, Scotland, 1843, aged 18 months.
2. Margaret Ann Allen (birth unknown. Died 18 April 1854 at Eureka). There is a headstone at the Ballaarat Old Cemetery that reads "Erected by Lex and Margaret Allen - Margaret Ann who met with a premature death at Eureka on 18 April 1854 aged 11 years.[4]
3. Elizabeth (Born Perth, Scotland. Married Digory Penrose Roberts, and they had 16 children)[5]
4. Jessie (Died 26 December 1852 at Geelong)
5. Esther Ann (Born Ballarat 1855. Married Robert Grant in 1874)[6];
6. Georgina Rennie (Born 1858 Ballarat. Married John Zehan Phillips in 1881)[7];
7. Mary Bathgate (Born 1861 Ballarat. Married Alexander Rae in 1881)[8]. [9]
