Goldfields Involvement, 1854

FINE ART GALLERY.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the council of the Fine Art Gallery was held in the association's board room, Lvdiard street, on Thursday evening last. Present — The president, Mr James Oddie, J,P., &c. (in the chair), Vice-presidents the Right Rev. Dr Thornton and Geo. Perry, Crs J. C. Molloy, F. J. Martell, H. A. Nevett, J. Oldham, T. Price, T. A. Uthwatt, J. N. Wilson, and T. D. Wanliss. A proffered presentation by Mr Adolphus A. Kaul, of Melbourne, through the ex-mayor (C. C. Shoppee), was accepted with thanks. The presentation comprises a letter from the British Museum, date 1853; a play bill, announcing Mr Kemble's performance at Ballarat in 1856; and a copy of the Proclamation issued by the authority of Robt. Rede, dated 1854, which was taken off the Eureka Stockade by Mr Kaul on the morning of the 4th December, 1854, immediately after the attack made thereon by the military. In his letter, to the council on the subject Mr Kaul says;—“l offer this present to your gallery as a return for the great kindness and many favors extended to me by the residents during the time I lived in the Ballarat district, and I shall always retain an affectionate remembrance of Ballarat and its people, they having always accorded me a generous welcome.” [1]

Post 1854 Experiences

Adolphus Kaul returned to England.
