Obituary
On Friday, 14th inst., the remains of the late Abraham Hanson were laid to rest in the New Cemetery; the funeral moving from the residence of his son-in-law, Mr C. A. Whitelaw. The deceased was a colonist of 64 years, and was in his 84th year. He was born at Huddersfield, England, and arrived in Hobson's Bay by thee ship called the Semaphore, and was in Ballarat at the time of the Eureka Riot. He followed mining from the time he arrived in the colony, and was held in high esteem by all classes. His wife pre-deceased him eight years ago. The only surviving son is Mr Edward Hanson, who resides at Maylands (West Australia). The Rev. W. Reed, officiated at the house and grave, and the funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs Barnes and Son.[1]

OBITUARY. Mr Abraham Hanson, a colonist of 64 years, passed away yesterday at 313 Windermere street south. Mr Hanson was in his 84th year, and was born at (Bradford, England), and was in Ballarat at the time of the Eureka riot. The deceased followed mining from the time he arrived in the colony, and was held in high esteem with all classes. His wife predeceased him by eight years. The only surviving son, Mr Frank Hanson, resides in West Australia. The funeral takes place on Friday, at 4 o’clock.

FUNERAL NOTICES HANSON – The friends of the late Mr Abraham Hanson are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of internment, the Ballarat New Cemetery. The funeral will leave the residence of his son-in-law, Mr Charles Whitelaw, 313 Windermere street south, to-morrow (Friday, 14th July), at 4 o’clock. On Friday the remains of the late Mr Abraham Hanson were laid to rest in the New Cemetery. Amongst those present were some of the deceased’s old pioneer friends. The Rev. W. Reed, vicar of All Saints’, officiated at the he house and grave. The coffin-bearers were Messrs C. A. Whitelaw (son-in-law), J. E. Whitelaw and W. Peet (grandsons), L. W. Orford (nephew). The following were the pall-bearers:- Messrs E.E. Halse, W. KNOTT, Geo. Deeble, J. V. Kitchen, H. Holland, R.F. Woofe and J. C. Green. The funeral and arrangements were carried out by Messrs F.W. Barnes and Son.[2]
