Background

Gay arrived in Australia in 1853, and first dug for gold at Canadian Gully. In 1855 he signed the Benden Sherritt Hassell Compensation Case Petition giving his occupation as miner.[1]

Gay was residing at Ballarat in the 1880s.[2]
