Background
Margaret (Gellatly) and her husband Alexander McKenzie Allen had emigrated from Scotland on the Flora in 1852. Margaret died of facial cancer on 4 January 1863.[1]
Goldfields Involvement, 1854
They were living at Eureka at the time of the Eureka Stockade.
Post 1854 Experiences
The family lived on the east side of Ballarat West where Alexander worked as a tailor.[2]
Family
Alexander and Margaret had at least seven children, three born in Australia:
1. James (Died Alloa, Scotland, 1843, aged 18 months).
2. Margaret Ann Allen (birth unknown. Died 18 April 1854 at Eureka). There is a headstone at the Ballaarat Old Cemetery that reads "Erected by Lex and Margaret Allen - Margaret Ann who met with a premature death at Eureka on 18 April 1854 aged 11 years.[3]
3. Elizabeth (Born Perth, Scotland. Married Digory Penrose Roberts, and they had 16 children)[4]
4. Jessie (Died 26 December 1852 at Geelong)
5. Esther Ann (Born Ballarat 1855. Married Robert Grant in 1874)[5];
6. Georgina Rennie (Born 1858 Ballarat. Married John Zehan Phillips in 1881)[6];
