Obituary
MRS CATHERINE Ann KEYES. Nee McNamara
The death of Mrs. Catherine Keyes at Adelaide Lead on 3rd April removed the last of the early pioneers in that place. Mrs. Keyes was born at Castle Connell, Limerick, Ireland, 90 years ago, and at the age of 21 married the late Richard Keyes at Limerick. They reached Geelong 68 years ago, and resided for many years at Adelaide Lead. Prior to going to Adelaide Lead they lived at Ballarat, being there at the time of the Eureka Stockade rising. Deceased reared a family of four sons and six daughters, of whom six (Mrs. Russell, Mrs Cook of Canterbury, Bridget of Ballarat, Richard, Eliza, and Kate of Adelaide Lead) are left to mourn the loss of a good and devoted mother. The remains were interred privately at the Maryborough Cemetery on Tuesday, April 4th. The burial service was read by the Rev. M. Jones, and the following acted as pall bearers:—R. Keyes (son), T. Cook (son-in-law), Gerald, Emmet and Mervyn Cook (grandsons), and J. Dillon (nephew).[1]
