Obituary
- There were interred in Ballarat Cemetery last week the remains of the famous pugilist Mat Hardy, who in the early fifties on Eureka and other local goldfields stood in the ring against some of the best. boxers of the day including Harry Sellers, Bob Phee, and Bob McLaren. Hardy, who was 73 years of age, won a considerable amount of money as a prize fighter and it is said he never suffered defeat. Of late years he has beep an inmate of the Ballarat Benevolent and was a martyr to gout and rheumatism.[1]
